Ranking refers to the actual placement or order a search engine gives a webpage based on its relevancy to a particular search term. Search engines display results with the most relevant page ranked first with less relevant pages listed in descending order. What is Alexa ? Alexa Internet, Inc. is a California-based subsidiary company of Amazon.com that is best known for operating a website that provides information on web traffic to other websites. Alexa ranks sites based on visits from users of its Alexa Toolbar for Internet Explorer and from integrated sidebars in Mozilla and Netscape. Alexa’s traffic rankings are based on the usage patterns of Alexa Toolbar users and data collected from other, diverse sources over a rolling 3 month period. A site’s ranking is based on a combined measure of reach and pageviews. Reach is determined by the number of unique Alexa users who visit a site on a given day. Pageviews are the total number of Alexa user URL requests for a site. However, multiple requests for the same URL on the same day by the same user are counted as a single pageview. The site with the highest combination of users and pageviews is ranked #1. If you want to check your website ranking, just go to http://www.alexa.com/ and you will find ’site info’ on your right hand side. Just give your website url and then click ‘Go’ it will display your home page and few information about your website. Below that “Traffic History Graph” of your website for the last six months and few information about yesterdays clicks will be shown. |
